At present, our university has more than 8,600 students from all over the world, including 413 doctoral, 1070 masters,5346 junior college students (including vocational), 1690 in adult education school,  825 are long-term foreign students. In addition, currently our university has established good cooperation with 14 countries and regions.We have more than 1,000 short-term overseas students from more than 30 countries and regions such as Japan, Korea, Russia, France, Britain, the United States, Germany, and Italy every year.

Founded in 1956, the Shanghai University of Tranditional Chinese Medicine, is one of the first four TCM high education institutions that is established since the foundation of PRC. The university is located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, research and education area. It covers an area of more than 600 acres, which is composed of teaching building, laboratory building, library information building, administration building, the Foreign Affairs building, sports centers, museums house. Our university is equipped with advanced teaching facilities and is surrounded with beautiful environment .

For the past 50 years, our university has trained and provided all kinds of Chinese medicine elite at all levels of expertise for our country. Our alumni spread over 60 countries and regions.Our school has more than 600 experts and professors, two academicians, many notable TCM doctors nationwide, Shanghai celebrated TCM doctors as well as national leaders in the field of key disciplines.

We now have 19 secondary schools and departments. Besides, we possess 3 directly affiliated hospitals- Shuguang Hospital, Longhua Hospital, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western medicine,which are all three A-level hospitals as well as two non-affiliated Hospital, Putuo Hospital and the Shanghai Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Our univesity build 16 subsidiary research institutes and 10 research centers. Still, we join medical education and research consortium composed by  Shanghai 19 Chinese institutions. We set up three bases in the Ministry of Education: National Science basic research and teaching personnel training base, the National University Students Cultural Quality Education Base, the Chinese martial arts training base for students; 3 A licensed doctoral disciplines: Chinese medicine, TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine disciplines, which are also post-doctoral flowing platforlms; 15 B doctoral disciplines; 23 master points; 16 vocational and undergraduate majors; At the same time, our university also have 9 continuing education in the two kinds of majors.

We implement the management system that integrates Research Institute and school administration. Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Reserch Institute is one of the seven National Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine. We have the existing four key disciplines in Ministry of Education : medicine surgery, the pharmacy, Chinese medicine, TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology; another two national key disciplines (training) : the history of Chinese medical literature, acupuncture and massage; 2 Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education,1 Engineering Center; 4 national key disciplines of Traditional Chinese Medicine disciplines , 24 C laboratories . 9 Shanghai Key Disciplines.

In addition, we boast of  2 E-Institute for Shanghai Universities; 5 key disciplines in the fifth stage that Shanghai Municipal Education Commission set;as well as 1 Shanghai Key Laboratory .

We strive to be research and teaching oriented , characteristic as well as  export-oriented. We endeavor towards the national first-class, world-renowned University of Chinese Medicine. The goal is still ahead.
